Are you one for superstitions? Well, if you are, rain on your wedding day might be a welcomed thing in your mind. For most of my couples, rain on their wedding day is pretty much the worst thing that could possibly happen. Like, ever. While some cultures might view rain as a sign of fertility or unity, most of us just see it as a sign of ruined plans and (even worse) ruined pictures. Ben and Sonia didn’t let a lot of rain on their wedding day ruin anything. Not one second. As you can see in the pictures below, their Independence Harbor wedding was absolutely stunning.
The one thing rain is good for? Keeping everyone on their toes! When it rains, plans need to be adjusted, venues need to be changed and (above all) brides and grooms need to remain calm. Sonia and Ben pretty much nailed it. It literally rained cats and dogs all day long on their wedding day. These two were so thrilled to be getting married, they barely noticed!
We had a master plan of taking photographs at the beach before the ceremony, but Mother Nature had other plans for us. We were lucky enough to secure a solid backup and took pictures at the New Bedford Whaling Museum before the ceremony. This is where I captured Sonia and Ben’s ‘first look’ and I’d say it was a pretty magical moment for all involved.
After we finished up at the museum, we headed over to Independence Harbor for the ceremony and reception. Sonia and Ben had planned an outdoor ceremony that would’ve capitalized on all the yummy fall colors and crisp air, but the venue staff really worked their magic and transformed the indoor space into a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The fireplace was a nice touch and everyone was so thrilled to be witnessing Sonia and Ben’s nuptials.
As a photographer, I’m privy to the behind-the-scenes emotions of wedding days and it was so heartwarming to see Sonia and Ben smiling from ear to ear, so in love. They didn’t waste any time after the ceremony getting into party mode and celebrating their new union with family and friends. The reception was kicked off with a beautiful toast and followed by a night of joy and celebration for all.
