I find that, as a professional photographer, my clients lives often intertwine with mine in interesting ways. My business relies heavily on referrals, and those referrals often come from family and friends. With the dawn of the new age of social media and how much small businesses rely on it, I’m lucky to get a lot of referrals from Facebook and even Google. But really, the bulk of my clients still come from word-of-mouth referrals. This five year old birthday lifestyle session with Kaliana really pulls at my heart strings, because my relationship with this family runs years back and also is kind of responsible for me being happily married today!
Interestingly enough, I use to babysit Kaliana’s mom and her sisters back in the day. Does that make me sound old? Maybe it does- but whatever, I think this is a very, very cool fact. I first met Kaliana (who goes by the adorable nickname, Kali) exactly five years ago at her newborn shoot! My how time flies. An even more interesting fact? Kali’s grandparents set me and my now-husband up 3.5 years ago! So, yes, this family holds a very special place in my heart 🙂
I’ll never get tired of talking about how one of the biggest perks of my job is getting to see families grow and kids change over the years. Professional photographs are certainly a luxury item, and splurging on them every year often depends on how the economy is doing. So I genuinely feel honored when clients come back year after year and ask me to document their life on camera.
This five year old birthday lifestyle session was so much fun and it certainly didn’t take Kali long to relax and show her true energy. I mean, if throwing confetti around and making a huge mess doesn’t get a soon-to-be five year old excited, I’m not sure what will!
As always, Kali and her family were a treat to work with and I can’t wait to photograph her again! Happy Birthday, sweet girl!
